Today at university a friend of mine was speaking about how they decided to stop watching the news on television because they 'had enough things to worry about in life'. Immediately, I had to listen to more of his reasoning behind this. Naturally, I was curious because I didn't think anybody else felt this way too.
Although we may of both had similar views against watching the news, the reason we both chose to avoid it was slightly different. I for one have to deal with a fair bit of anxiety in my life and there are certain triggers (some weirder than others) that will get my mind racing. One being the news on television.
I would hate to be called ignorant, because I try my best to be far from it. But it is very difficult to remain educated about the world we live in whilst being absolutely petrified of watching a news report. A simple solution I have found is reading news articles on topics I do wish to hear about or is simply vital and very important for me to know about... but does that still make me ignorant?
Like my classmate, everyday life already bombards you with lots of little things to worry about it. Some may deal with it better than others. But for somebody who will face the consequence of extreme rushes of worry, paranoia and anxiety; is it all really worth it?
Can we really afford more worries?
Hugs and kisses,
